Counselling

If you are an adult who was abused as a child it is possible that you may have never spoken to anyone about this. Many adults keep this a secret well into their adult life and many find that the effect upon them has had devastating consequences not only throughout their childhood but also in their adult life.

You may find that you have enormous difficulty in maintaining loving and trusting relationships, you may have low sense of worth and low self esteem, you may suffer from sexual difficulties or depression.

In order to try and block out the abuse and to cope you may be drinking heavily, taking drugs, self harming, suffering from eating disorders and may feel suicidal.

It is important to share the way you are feeling with someone you can trust, someone who will be there for you to listen and give you support. Talking about what has happened to you can make an enormous difference and can feel like a great weight being lifted from you.

Counselling is not about giving advice, counselling is a process through which you are encouraged to explore concerns and difficulties and to deepen your understanding of yourself and others and to facilitate change if you so wish.

All of our counsellors are trained to listen in a non-judgemental way so that your, feelings, needs and experiences can be shared. Click here if you require further information on understanding counselling.

Support / Crisis Support

Some survivors may not want regular counselling, but feel the need for occasional support on a more flexible basis - for example when things get on top of you or something triggers a flashback. This support can be offered in person or on the telephone helpline. You can now also access support at KASP’s Forum.

Partners, Family & Friends, Parents

We offer support, information, self help forum and advice for partners, families and friends of survivors. We offer individual or group support for non-abusing parents of children who have been sexually abused.

Advocacy

We can provide independent advocacy and support on issues such as accessing legal advice, benefits information, housing matters, etc.
